14 Weeks Post-Op: Baller Scar.

My roommate and I unfortunately share the awesomeness that is chronic ankle instability and she also experienced the hot lights and cold steel with her own ankle surgery in April. Also very hweird was that it was both our right ankles with ATFL tears (hers: complete/ mine: partial) and avulsion fractures (when ligament tears so violently it breaks of a piece of bone it is attached to), but different bones: mine-talus/hers-fibula. BIZARRO non-sequitor. She got her cast off 2 weeks ago and I was hella-jealous of her nonexistent scar. WTF? Being a nerd that I am, I went ahead and BINGed an answer for myself—-> Asians are more prone to hypertrophic scarring AKA scarring outta control. If interested BING keloids—now those are impressive. We gots more melatonin in our skin which makes for super-hot tans and badass scars! Go genetics, go! Sorry mom, these look pretty permanent :(

I got my drink & my two step! Down to just an ankle brace. Still walking like a drunk hobo however. Haven’t worn 2 shoes since January. Start PT on Monday.

Full of Piss and Vinegar.

So since my cane and I have made our debut, everyone keeps asking what happened. And I am truly running low on sassy comebacks. Now my brain hurts more than my swollen ankle does. Here a some of the greatest thus far (from worst to best):

5. Telling them actually what happened—chronic ankle instability + heels + EtOH = snapping ligaments in ankle while falling out of a party bus on New Year’s Eve 2010.

4. I’m part of an all-female Fight Club but I’m not supposed to talk about it.

3. I thought this is what all the kids were doing.

2. Prison Riot.

1. What cane?

Any suggestions party people?

Bitches Get Stitches…taken out.

Just about two weeks post-surgery and got my stitches taken out today. Here is a gruesome picture of what my ankle looked like after they took the giant wrap off and before they cut the stitches out.

Disgustin’

I just wanted to tell you that getting those 8 stitches out hurt like a muthabitch. Don’t tell my mother and her Chinese ‘medical’ advice of not eating beef, shrimp or soy sauce so I won’t have a scar because I’m pretty sure not all the Mederma in the world is gonna make those scars go away. Also I may have eaten some scrimps and a 6 oz. steak from Outback Steakhouse. Wahh-wah.

Now I got a baller neon green cast for 3 weeks which I can begin to walk with full weight as tolerated. I will be kissin’ these crutches goodbye ASAP. The 3 more weeks in that awesome boot again then a brace and some PT and I will be good as new. Hopefully not ruining my new bionic ankle with falling and sports I shouldn’t be participating in.
